WILL YOUR MARRIAGE SURVIVE?

by Dana Greco /
March 17, 2020 /

How will your relationship survive?

During the stress of todays crisis, there may be opportunity. Yesterday I heard there were 300 divorcewill your marriage survive cases recently filed in China. Is this the result of their devastation?

What then will happen to us here? Many families are bound to their homes, parents are home, work is halted, everyone is under the same roof, day after day after day. A social , economic and bio fear looms, without the end in sight. These can be seen as highly stressful circumstances and can erode the foundation of family more so than the usual factors that erode and destroy a family and a marriage.

So how can we manage and pass the test and challenges that have become our reality?
Strong bonds had to have been built from something. Having asked couples what makes their relationship work, here is what some of them said.

“No matter how weird, or harsh, or embarrassing or shameful, or boring, tell the truth. Spill your guts
Don’t emphasize your self doubt, if your self doubt gets thrown back in your face, that only reveals your partner’s shitty character.”

Another one told me, “ Never leave your spouse guessing about any single thing you are doing. Full disclosure, minute to minute. Over communicate.”

Here’s one of a marriage more than 25 years, “Separate space, appreciate that we have each other, common bonds, music, friends, culture, and intellectual discussions.” They never fell into a rut. That’s working at it.

For those of you who don’t see themselves in the three scenarios above, then my last friend writes, “I lock my self in my son’s room, come out for meals, we have two TV’s, and I stay out of the house.”

We will remember this time as one of triumph or tragedy. Bonding more, or severing the ties.
Many counselors are available for virtual sessions if they are not in the offices.

We are here to help and take the pressure off.
